Food Program
Food Safety
The effects of a foodborne illness can be devastating. The Bureau, Putnam and Marshall County Health Departments are committed to reducing foodborne illnesses in our community by helping to eliminate the factors that cause these illnesses. Following the Illinois Food Code and the County Food Sanitation Ordinance, the food-related duties of the Environmental Health Division include conducting inspections at all food service establishments, investigating complaints, providing educational training to food service workers, and issuing food licenses and permits. We also review and approve establishment plans for newly constructed or remodeled food services. If necessary, we initiate legal proceedings for non-compliance of applicable rules and regulations. Our staff is available to assist individuals and establishments in our community to learn how to prepare, serve and store foods safely.
